“As we mark the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, I take immense pride in the growing contributions of Maldivian women to international affairs. The Maldives was honored to co-sponsor the United Nations General Assembly resolution establishing this observance, reaffirming our belief that global diplomacy is at its strongest when women participate fully, equally, and meaningfully in shaping our shared future.
Today, we are witnessing a historic transformation. Women are leading at the highest levels of our foreign policy, including our Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Iruthisham Adam, and our first female Foreign Secretary, H.E. Fathimath Inaya. Because women make up half of the world's population, their voices are not a luxury—they are a necessity. We see the positive impact of this leadership every day as women advance our national interests and build bridges of international cooperation.
To the young generation of women diplomats, I share this reflection: early in my own career, many women faced an impossible choice between family responsibilities and state service. Today, the world has changed. The doors are open wider, and you have the opportunity to balance a thriving career with a fulfilling family life. Take hold of these opportunities and walk through them with absolute confidence. I remain deeply inspired by the dedication of women diplomats worldwide, and particularly by the generations of Maldivian women whose service continues to elevate our nation’s voice on the global stage.”
