About the High Commission

The High Commission of the Republic of Maldives in Singapore represents the interests of the Maldivian government and serves as a vital diplomatic bridge between the two nations. Established in November 2007, the High Commission has played a crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations, building upon close economic, educational, and developmental ties. The opening of this mission marked a significant milestone in fostering deeper diplomatic, commercial, and technical cooperation between the two countries. 

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore were officially established on February 20, 1975. Recognising the growing importance of their partnership, the Government of the Maldives proposed setting up a resident diplomatic mission on October 2, 2007, leading to its formal establishment. The mission was ceremoniously opened by His Excellency Mr. Fathullah Jameel, the then-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, with His Excellency Mr. Hassan Sobir appointed as the inaugural Resident High Commissioner. 

Singapore and the Maldives enjoy a robust partnership built on mutual respect and shared developmental goals. The High Commission facilitates active collaboration across key sectors, including economic and trade development, capacity building, and small states advocacy, partnering in international forums to address shared priorities, economic growth, and the unique challenges faced by island nations.

Beyond diplomatic representation, the High Commission provides essential consular services to Maldivian nationals residing in or visiting Singapore. This includes assisting with passports, documentation, and official matters, as well as supporting Maldivian students, expatriates, and business professionals. Over the years, the mission has actively championed people-to-people connections, fostering educational, commercial, and tourism exchanges that remain integral to the ongoing growth of bilateral ties.

As the official representative of the Maldivian government, the High Commission remains deeply committed to promoting cooperation, diplomacy, and friendship. Through continued dialogue and collaboration, the mission works toward building a stronger, more prosperous future for both the Maldives and Singapore.
