Certificate of Identity

In cases where a passport has been lost, stolen, or damaged, a Certificate of Identity (CI) may be required to facilitate the applicant's return to the Maldives. Applications for a Certificate of Identity are processed and approved by Maldives Immigration. The documentary requirements listed below are prescribed by Maldives Immigration for the processing of a Certificate of Identity application.

Upon approval of the application by Maldivian Immigration, the Embassy will issue the Certificate of Identity to the applicant.

Required Documents 

Applicants must submit the following documents to the Embassy either in person or by email to riyadh.embassy@foreign.gov.mv:

  1. Completed Passport Application Form (IM32) issued by Maldives Immigration, available on the Maldives Immigration website.
  2. A copy of the lost, stolen, or damaged passport
  3. A copy of the National Identity Card.
  4. A digital passport-sized photograph that complies with the photo requirements of Maldives Immigration.
  5. A printed passport-sized photograph to be affixed to the Certificate of Identity.
  6. A copy of the Saudi visa.
  7. A copy of the return flight ticket to the Maldives.
  8. Signed letter addressed to Maldives Immigration requesting the issuance of a Certificate of Identity, including the details of the cause of loss/damage,.
  9. Police report issued by the relevant local police station regarding the loss or theft of the passport.

    Important Note: The Embassy acts as the receiving and issuing authority for Certificate of Identity applications. The decision to approve or reject an application rest solely with Maldives Immigration. Processing times may vary depending on the verification requirements of Maldives Immigration. Applicants may be contacted by the Embassy if additional information or documentation is required during the processing of the application.
