The Government of the Republic of Maldives strongly condemns the Houthi’s group’s targeting of a Saudi Vessel while sailing through the Red Sea.
The Maldives considers these attacks as a grave threat to the freedom, safety and security of international navigation, and a dangerous escalation that undermines the stability of Red Sea, and the Bab al- Mandab Strait, a critical global energy supply route, with adverse implications for the global economy, energy security and regional stability.
The Maldives calls on the international community to ensure the implementation of the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, including resolution 2216 and 2722, and international law including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The Maldives reiterates its solidarity with the Government and the brotherly people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reaffirms its support for all measures undertaken to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
