Our Mandate
The Consulate of the Republic of Maldives in Jeddah is dedicated to protecting and promoting the interests of the Republic of Maldives and its citizens within its consular jurisdiction in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Consulate's mandate is to provide effective consular assistance and support to Maldivian nationals, with particular emphasis on Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, students, families, and visitors to the Kingdom. The Consulate works to safeguard the welfare of Maldivian citizens, facilitate communication with relevant Saudi authorities, assist in emergencies, and provide essential consular services in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In addition, the Consulate supports the strengthening of the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Republic of Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, contributing to the advancement of bilateral relations in coordination with the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in Riyadh and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives.
Located in Jeddah, the principal gateway for pilgrims travelling to the Holy Cities of Makkah and Madinah, the Consulate plays a vital role in coordinating support and assistance for Maldivian pilgrims throughout the Hajj and Umrah seasons.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Assigned to the Consulate

1- Providing assistance to Maldivian pilgrims travelling from the Maldives for Hajj and Umrah in resolving consular issues they may encounter.
2- Providing necessary services, in consultation with the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in Riyadh, to Maldivian delegations (Hajj missions) sent by the Government for Hajj.
3- Obtaining information on Maldivian students studying in the Makkah Region, Maldivians residing in the Makkah Region, and Maldivian visitors to the Makkah Region, and providing necessary consular assistance and services. In this regard:
3.1 Assisting Maldivians who face restrictions or measures imposed by relevant authorities in the Makkah Region, in accordance with international consular practices.
3.2 Providing assistance to Maldivians who experience loss, expiry, or damage of their National Identity Card or passport, in accordance with Maldivian laws and regulations.
3.3 Facilitating the issuance of necessary documents for Maldivian children born in the Makkah Region to travel to the Maldives, in coordination with relevant authorities, and assisting in obtaining exit permits from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
3.4 Assisting Maldivians in distress in the Makkah Region, in accordance with international consular practices and Maldivian laws and regulations.
3.5 In the event of the death of a Maldivian national in the Makkah Region, providing assistance in carrying out the necessary procedures related to the case.
3.6 Facilitating matters related to citizenship for those seeking to obtain Maldivian nationality and those wishing to renounce Maldivian nationality, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
4- Participating in important meetings organised by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and sharing the minutes of such meetings with the Ministry and the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in Riyadh.
5- In cases where Maldivians are involved in civil disputes in the Makkah Region, or where a Maldivian suffers harm as a result of such disputes, assisting in accordance with international consular practices and relevant laws.
6- Taking necessary actions in coordination with the relevant authorities in Saudi Arabia to facilitate visa arrangements for Maldivian students and residents in the Makkah Region, issuing required documents, and assisting in resolving related issues.
7- Maintaining close relations between Maldivians in the Makkah Region, Maldivian associations, and the Government of the Maldives and promoting Maldivian identity and national values while working in the national interest of the Maldives.
8- Monitoring situations where actions by individuals or groups in the Makkah Region may negatively affect the national interest or security of the Maldives and reporting such matters to the Ministry and the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in Riyadh for appropriate action.
9- Participating in social events and gatherings in the Makkah Region upon invitation, in consultation with the Ministry, representing the Maldives and promoting national interests.
10- Monitoring and reporting news, information, and media coverage related to the Maldives in Jeddah-based television, radio, newspapers, and social media; correcting inaccurate information when necessary; and providing relevant information to the Ministry.
11- Establishing relations with non-governmental organisations, academic institutions, media organisations, influential entities, and the diplomatic community to promote the Maldives’ interests and strengthen bilateral understanding.
12- Promoting Maldivian exports in the Makkah Region and working to increase investments and tourism flows from Saudi Arabia to the Maldives.
13- Providing information on trade, tourism, fisheries, economic development, and other sectors of the Maldives to relevant stakeholders in Jeddah.
14- As the Consulate representing the Maldives in the Makkah Region, participating in social and official events upon invitation from governmental and non-governmental organisations and representing the Maldives in a manner consistent with national policy.
15- Carrying out other assigned tasks related to the promotion of national interests under the guidance of the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in Riyadh and preparing and submitting required reports to the Ministry.
16- Identifying and reporting potential adverse impacts on the Maldivian economy and national interests arising from economic and political developments in Saudi Arabia, particularly in Jeddah.
17- Gathering information on the entry and exit of Maldivians in the Makkah Region when instructed by the Government and sharing the information with the Ministry.
18- Assisting state dignitaries during official visits to the Makkah Region in accordance with established procedures.
19- Delivering official government correspondence to relevant parties.
20- Commemorating important national days such as Independence Day and National Day in Jeddah.
