The Consulate General

The Consulate General of the Republic of Maldives in Thiruvananthapuram serves as the official diplomatic mission of the Maldives in the southern region of India. The mission was originally established in 2005 as the Consulate of the Maldives and was elevated to a Consulate General in 2019, reflecting the growing importance of Maldives–India relations and the expanding scope of its diplomatic and consular functions.

The Consulate General plays a vital role in strengthening the longstanding and close bilateral relations between the Republic of Maldives and the Republic of India, particularly with the State of Kerala. It is committed to providing efficient and responsive consular services to Maldivian nationals residing in or visiting India, while also facilitating travel, trade, cultural exchange, and people-to-people connections between the two countries.

Its core functions include assistance with passports and documentation, emergency support, liaison with local authorities, and promoting cooperation in key sectors such as healthcare, education, tourism, and investment. The mission also actively engages with regional institutions and stakeholders to enhance mutual understanding and collaboration.

Since its elevation to a Consulate General, the mission has been led by distinguished diplomats. H.E. Aminath Abdulla Didi was appointed in December 2019 as the first Consul General of the Maldives in Thiruvananthapuram. She was succeeded by H.E. Aminath Shifana, who assumed office in 2023 and currently serves as the Consul General and Head of Mission.

Operating under the guidance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives and in close coordination with the High Commission of the Maldives in New Delhi, the Consulate General continues to uphold the values of diplomacy, cooperation, and mutual respect. It remains dedicated to delivering high-quality consular assistance and fostering stronger bilateral engagement at both regional and national levels.
