Registering a Marriage

A Maldivian citizen who has married in the United Kingdom and wishes to register the marriage in the Republic of Maldives is required to obtain a Marriage Registration Letter from the High Commission prior to submitting an application to the Family Court of the Maldives.

To obtain the Marriage Registration Letter, applicants must submit the following documents:

1. The original or a certified copy of the marriage certificate issued by a registered mosque or organisation listed under the "Places of Worship" recognised in accordance with the Marriage Act of the United Kingdom.
2. A copy of the applicant's Maldivian National Identity Card.
3. Copies of the passports of both spouses
